Gioco del Ponte – Pisa
On the last Saturday of June, Pisa hosts the spectacular Gioco del Ponte (Battle of the Bridge), a historical re-enactment dating back to the Renaissance.
More than 700 participants dressed in period costume parade through the city before the two rival factions compete on Ponte di Mezzo, the city's central bridge. Victory goes to the team that successfully pushes its opponents back and gains control of the bridge.

Calcio Storico Fiorentino
Every year on 24 June, Florence celebrates its patron saint, Saint John the Baptist, with the famous Calcio Storico Fiorentino. The festivities begin with a historical procession from Santa Maria Novella to Piazza Santa Croce, followed by the traditional match played in Renaissance costume.
Dating back to the 16th century, this unique sport combines elements of football, rugby, and wrestling. The four teams represent Florence's historic districts: Santa Croce (Blue), Santo Spirito (White), Santa Maria Novella (Red), and San Giovanni (Green). The winning team is traditionally awarded a calf.
Palio di Siena
The Palio di Sienais Tuscany's most famous and exciting horse race. Held twice a year, on 2 July and 16 August, it takes place around the iconic Piazza del Campo, where ten of Siena's historic districts compete for the coveted Palio, a painted banner dedicated to the Virgin Mary.
During the days leading up to the race, Siena comes alive with traditional neighborhood dinners, ceremonies, and celebrations. On race day, a magnificent historical parade in medieval costume winds through the city's streets before entering Piazza del Campo, creating one of Italy's most unforgettable spectacles.
Giostra del Saracino – Arezzo
The Giostra del Saracino is one of Tuscany's oldest medieval tournaments and takes place in Arezzo's beautiful Piazza Grande twice a year: on the third Saturday of June(night edition) and the first Sunday of September.
Following an impressive historical parade, eight knights representing the city's districts charge toward the Buratto, a rotating wooden figure symbolizing the Saracen warrior. Competitors must strike its shield with a lance while avoiding the rotating arm that swings back after impact. The district with the highest score wins the coveted Golden Lance.

Bravio delle Botti – Montepulciano
Held on the last Sunday of August, the Bravio delle Botti is one of Tuscany's most distinctive historical competitions. Teams representing Montepulciano's eight historic districts race 80-kilogram wooden wine barrels uphill for nearly 1.8 kilometers through the medieval streets to Piazza Grande.
The race is preceded by a colorful historical procession and followed by celebrations throughout the town, making it one of the most authentic cultural events in Tuscany.
